Avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat including monkeys – Ministry of Health alert Nigerians against monkeypox virus

Following the outbreak of monkeypox virus in Bayelsa state, the Federal Ministry of Health has advised Nigerians to avoid feeding on bushmeat and dead animals, including monkeys. This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole on Thursday. In a statement released through Boade Akinola, the director of media and public relations in the ministry, the minister stated that the disease don't have a cure or vaccine but there is no cause for an alarm. The statement read in part: “He (Adewole) said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines, hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible. “He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat and particularly bush monkeys.” The statement added that “The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.” Adewole also disclosed that test samples have been sent to the W

Fire guts popular Kenyan second-hand clothes market

This morning, a huge fire broke out at Kenya's Gikomba market where firefighters tried to contain the blaze at the popular second-hand market.   Local media reports that the fire started early on Friday morning and immediately, city authorities appealed to private operators of fire engines to assist in putting out the fire. Gikomba is a popular second-hand clothes market but is also renowned as the centre of the capital's informal economy, attracting a diverse number of traders. Following the fire, one trader said he had lost 250 bales of clothing, worth an estimated 23,000 (£17,600).  A Kenyan radio station is however reporting that a government minister has said that the fire could be as a result of arson. Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike seems to have found love again following his recent divorce from his estranged wife and mother of his four children, Suzanne Emma Rero. The actor has been sharing beautiful and loved-up photos of himself with a curvy lady who has been identified as a 28-year old South African. President Buhari receives Justices of the Supreme Court at the State House

President Buhari today received the judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and other head of courts at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today October 6th. The judges were led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. During the visit, President Buhari called for the establishment of courts in prison yards to speed up decongestion of the prisons as the logistics of transporting prisoners to court is not readily available.
